Celebrating The Life Of Loved Ones

Elizabeth Jane Chandler Davis

Elizabeth Jane Chandler Davis died on Thursday, March 1, 2018.  She was born on August 12, 1941 in Albemarle, North Carolina to Vivian and Aubrey Chandler.  She was married to the late Donald P. Davis and was the mother of Elizabeth Davis and Christopher Davis.  Surviving are her grandsons, Hunter Davis, Luke Davis and Jared Davis.  She is also survived by her sister, Susan Taylor.

Jane studied French at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and earned her Master’s degree at Appalachain State University.   She had an important impact on her community as a teacher for more than thirty years, where she taught French and English at North Stanly High School. Jane was not only a teacher, but practiced lifelong learning.  She was a voracious reader, her entire life.  She participated in a book club and also served as President of Stanly County Friends of the Library for a number of years.

Jane had a great interest in the world around her and loved traveling extensively across four continents, North America, Africa, Asia and Europe. She climbed the Great Wall in China, rode a camel in Egypt, and saw the ancient sites of Greece and Italy. She never passed up an opportunity to travel.

Jane touched the community in many ways. She had unlimited compassion and generosity for other people and for animals. She quietly contributed all kinds of help to anyone in need. One of her favorite Christmas events was shopping for Angel Tree gifts.  Known for her animal rescue activities, Jane never turned away a stray, but instead tried to find homes for them.

The family will be receiving friends from 1-3PM on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care in Albemarle.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations or memorials be made to Stanly County Humane Society at 2049 Badin Rd, Albemarle, NC 28001 or online at https://stanlycountyhumanesociety.org/donate

Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care is serving the Davis family.

Mama (Patsy Sides Smith) and I were always so happy when Jane and Beth would come see us at the Metrolina Antiques Show. That smile of hers was infectious. And how I wish I had known her more …. the crossings of our lives — learning that Beth and I were in NY at nearly the same time and only blocks apart — our shared love of travel, education, and books..I always felt an instinctive bond with this cousin of my mother’s. I learned today that the Elizabeth in her name had been for my grandmother. Beth, Susan, and Chris — we so wish we could be there tomorrow. We send you our love and hugs. Cameron and Patsy

I am so saddened to hear of your Mother’s passing. I have many fond memories of her. She was so different than ALL of my other teachers back then.. I remember staring at her and thinking she was so classy and “put together”…..and she had the most perfect manicure I had ever seen. Hearing her beautiful accent when she spoke French was like music. Thank you for sharing her Bio ……i am not a bit surprised that she was just as beautiful on the inside.

Stanly overwhelmingly met or exceeded our family’s expectations. Family and friends both expressed how thoughtful, caring and professional they were. We’re glad you’re in Locust!

We never felt hurried or rushed in any way even though they had other funerals that day.  Everyone at Stanly Funeral Home made us feel like we were family and did everything they could for us in this most trying time in our lives.

Everyone went out of their way to make sure that every detail was good with me.  Their kindness, patience and love they show is superior.  Stephen Aldridge and his ENTIRE staff are the best.

The whole staff was wonderful but Stephen Aldridge was excellent, even sending us a note one month later.
