Lowell Columbus “Pete” Whitley

Lowell Columbus “Pete” Whitley, 95, of Albemarle, NC, passed away Thursday March 29, 2018 in his home. His funeral service will be 1 PM Tuesday April 3, 2018 at West Albemarle Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Hatley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park with Military Honors conducted by the Stanly County DAV. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 12: 30 PM in the Family Life Center at West Albemarle Baptist Church.

Pete was born November 8, 1922 in Stanly County, NC and was the son of the late Kelcie E. Whitley and Osie Cline Whitley. He retired as a carpenter. Mr. Whitley was a member of West Albemarle Baptist Church and a Veteran of the US Army serving during in WWII.

Mr. Whitley is preceded in death by his wife Mable Mann Whitley on November 21, 2000. He is survived by a son David E. Whitley (Ellen) of Albemarle, NC; two daughters Jo Ann Whitley Roberts (Ron) of Sisters, OR., and Sandy Whitley Phillips (Nick) of Elverson, PA.; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Pete was also preceded in death by a daughter Debbie Whitley (Larry) Riggsby; nine siblings; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Albemarle Baptist Church Building Fund, 336 Church St., Albemarle, NC 28001.

      Thank you Jane for your condolences. Dad had a wonderful and long life. He will be missed, but we are rejoicing with him being in the presence of Jesus.

Your dad was very special, a great man, a caring person who always reached out to others and now called to a higher service, and is at peace in a place more beautiful than any of us can imagine.     Our prayers go out to all the Whitley family. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We are so sorry about his passing. You were so blessed to have your dad for so long. I think back on wonderful memories of him as we were growing up. Much Love.

We never felt hurried or rushed in any way even though they had other funerals that day.  Everyone at Stanly Funeral Home made us feel like we were family and did everything they could for us in this most trying time in our lives.


Everyone went out of their way to make sure that every detail was good with me.  Their kindness, patience and love they show is superior.  Stephen Aldridge and his ENTIRE staff are the best.


The whole staff was wonderful but Stephen Aldridge was excellent, even sending us a note one month later.
