Mary Kate “Katie” Turner Severin

(April 24, 1991 – November 12, 2018)

Katie Turner, age 27, of Angier, NC went to Heaven on November 12, 2018 following an automobile accident.  Katie was born in Stanly County on April 24, 1991, the daughter of Frank and Debbie Turner of Albemarle.

A quiet and humble person, Katie had a gift for turning the simplest items into beautiful works of art.  Her passion was in making handmade gifts for her family and friends.  Katie had a deep love for God, and she was not ashamed to live out her faith.

Katie graduated from West Stanly High School as Salutatorian in 2009.  She graduated from Campbell University in 2013 with a bachelors degree in Mathematics, and from Appalachian State University in 2015 with a masters degree in Mathematics.  Katie taught math at Appalachian State University until May of 2017.

Katie is survived by her husband and best friend, Ben Severin.  They met while both attending Campbell University and were married July 12, 2014.  She is also survived by her parents, her sister Dana Turner of Boston, MA, and her grandmother, Sue Turner of New London.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 until 8 PM at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle.  A service to celebrate Katie’s life will be on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11 AM at Plyler Baptist Church in Albemarle where she will lie in state for 1 hour prior to the hour of the service.  Rev. Brian Franklin and Rev. Charles Hensley will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC  28607.

Mr. and Mrs. Turner, when I think of the many students that have come through West Stanly H.S. over the years I can think of no finer person or student as your Katie. She was so well thought of by her fellow students and our staff. It breaks my heart for your family to be experiencing her loss. Her humbleness and caring spirit will always remain in my thoughts. God truly received an Angel. I am praying mighty prayers for all of you.

  • Cassandra Miller Posted November 14, 2018 12:00 pm

Stanly overwhelmingly met or exceeded our family’s expectations. Family and friends both expressed how thoughtful, caring and professional they were. We’re glad you’re in Locust!

We never felt hurried or rushed in any way even though they had other funerals that day.  Everyone at Stanly Funeral Home made us feel like we were family and did everything they could for us in this most trying time in our lives.

Everyone went out of their way to make sure that every detail was good with me.  Their kindness, patience and love they show is superior.  Stephen Aldridge and his ENTIRE staff are the best.

The whole staff was wonderful but Stephen Aldridge was excellent, even sending us a note one month later.
