Celebrating The Life Of Loved Ones

Roger Dale Harwood

Roger Dale Harwood, 64, of Albemarle passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2018 in his home.  His funeral service will be 1 PM Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Second Street Presbyterian Church in Albemarle, with Rev. John Black and Rev. Kenneth Ribelin officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care on Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM.

Born May 29, 1953 in Cabarrus County, NC, Roger was the son of the late Luther Berry Harwood and Stella Marie Pate Harwood. He was a Piano Tuner/Technician and owner of Harwood Piano Service. Roger was an active member of the Piano Technicians Guild – Charlotte Chapter and received his Registered Piano Technician (RPT) designation in 2013, which was the highlight of his career.  As a member of Second Street Presbyterian Church, he served as both Deacon and Elder. He also taught Sunday School, volunteered countless hours with VBS, was a choir member and soloist, where his talent and passion for music and the Lord shined.

Roger loved spending time with his family, especially making and flying R/C and paper airplanes with his grandsons.  His other hobbies included fishing, tying knots, watching and playing sports, shooting rockets, and woodworking.  His inquisitive nature allowed him to be a lifelong learner and teacher.

Roger is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce Ribelin Harwood, sons Chris Harwood and wife Jennifer of Albemarle, Justin Harwood and wife Heather of Charlotte, sisters Carolyn Holt of Albemarle and Debbie Oram-Smith of Murrells Inlet, SC, two grandsons Andrew and Evan, and one granddaughter, Lily, due in May.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all who have supported Roger and Joyce with love and prayer. They also wish to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Levine Cancer Institute in addition to Hospice of Stanly & The Uwharrie for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Street Presbyterian Church, 105 Hearne St., Albemarle, NC 28001.

    Dear Harwood family,
Please accept my condolence and deep regrets for your loss for this enemy death shows no mercy and I’d like to share where I found comfort and hope when this enemy took my entire family. I found this in what I read in Jehovah Gods word the Bible at John5:28,29 for there we’re told that we’ll see our love ones again in the resurrection when Jesus brings them back here on earth and at Isaiah25:8 we’re told that this enemy death will be swallowed up forever. These scriptures and others help me cope with my loss and get through each day because now I know I’ll see my love ones again and so can you. I do hope this helped you also and you’ll feel free to let me know..
Hoping to hear from you. Sincerely, GM

Joyce and sons, our hearts are heavy as we grieve the loss of a fine husband, father, grandfather, brother and to us. ..cousin. Lyndell and I were reminiscing today about our fun growing up experiences with Roger. Roger gave me my first hamster. Very much to the distress of my mother. Especially when Hammie learned to manipulate his cage door and escape to unknown areas of the house. We had a big time seeing Mom have a cow in fear it would get in her bed at night! Blundell always enjoyed his golfing with Roger. Roger enjoyed life and what a shining star representing such love of his family and his Heavenly Father. Carolyn and Debbie know our hearts and prayers for God to surround you in peace are with you. We extend our blessings of love, faith, grace and hope to each of you. Rejoice that Roger is on a much better place. Miss you all. Take care of one another. Love you. Bettina

Words can’t express the pain felt for the loss of our dear brother. Roger was my Sunday School Teacher and we sang in the choir together. I sure do love the Harwood’s. Such a wonderful family. It is a blessing to have known Roger and I pray for God to comfort his beloved family in the wake of this emptiness we all feel right now. God Bless You.

Stanly overwhelmingly met or exceeded our family’s expectations. Family and friends both expressed how thoughtful, caring and professional they were. We’re glad you’re in Locust!

We never felt hurried or rushed in any way even though they had other funerals that day.  Everyone at Stanly Funeral Home made us feel like we were family and did everything they could for us in this most trying time in our lives.

Everyone went out of their way to make sure that every detail was good with me.  Their kindness, patience and love they show is superior.  Stephen Aldridge and his ENTIRE staff are the best.

The whole staff was wonderful but Stephen Aldridge was excellent, even sending us a note one month later.
