
Friday, February 12, 2021, Gerald Lane Winfree (72) of Richfield passed peacefully into his eternal home surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 10, 1948, Gerald was the 5th of 6 children born to Robert and Alta Rae Winfree. After graduating from West Stanly High School, he married his sweetheart, enlisted in the United States Navy, and served honorably in the Vietnam War. His return home brought a 30 year career at ALCOA, from which he would retire.
Mr. Winfree was a beloved member of New Bethel Lutheran Church, serving in numerous roles for more than 50 years. A true servant leader, he was happiest when he was helping others and spending time with his family.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Dianne Ridenhour Winfree. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Hayley Winfree Franklin (Michael) of Richfield and Emily Winfree Smith (Jarrett) of Norwood; his grandchildren, Kasey (Andria), Tayler, Samuel, Lane, Grayson, and Jolie; his brothers Bob (Vickie) and Michael (June); and his sisters Glenda Wages (Joe) and Barbara Floyd.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Winfree.
The visitation will be held at Stanly Funeral Home in Albemarle on Monday, February 15, from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. The funeral service will take place at New Bethel Lutheran Church in Richfield on Tuesday, February 16 at 2:00pm.

Gerald was a good man,servant to God, country and community. He was active in the VFW and will be greatly missed. Prayers for the family.
Though I ‘ve only known Gerald for a short time, I enjoyed his kindness, friendliness and our time on the golf course

I will never forget Gerald’s huge smile and fun spirit. He could always light up a room and make everyone laugh. I know he will be greatly missed by everyone. Diane, I am praying for comfort and peace for the Winfree family.

Sorry to hear about Gerald’s passing. Gerald was a good high school friend and one if not the best athlete ever at West Stanly. I always along with others would comment, if you could not get along with Gerald you could not get along with anyone. He will be missed.
