Celebrating The Life Of Loved Ones

Grover Lamar (Jack/Red) Tolbert

Grover Lamar (Jack/Red) Tolbert, 87, was born January 23, 1932 in Athens, GA.  He went to celebrate Easter with The Lord and his loving wife on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at 3:50 PM at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, North Carolina.   His funeral service will be 4 PM Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Community Baptist Church with Rev. Landon Keziah and Rev. Roy Lee Barbee officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church from 3 until 4 prior to the hour of the service.

He was the son of the late Eunie Mae Simmons and the late Clifford Simmons of Kannapolis, NC.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Bessie Ruth Barbee Tolbert on February 1, 2018.  He is survived by his three daughters, Cynthia Long of Locust, Judy Grismer of Oakboro, and Jackie Hartsell of Albemarle.  He left behind 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by 3 sisters, Evie Griffin and Betty (Hal) Robinson of Concord, NC and Karen Shelton of Kannapolis, NC.  His brothers Onnie and Lonnie Simmons and his sisters Virginia Safrit and Dorothy Waller also preceded him in death.  He also left behind many, many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Tolbert worked 20 plus years for Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, NC and 20 plus years for R. H. Bouligny in Charlotte.  He was a hard-working man who was devoted to his family and did his best to provide for all of them.   He was a jack of all trades – there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.  He will be dearly missed by all who loved and cared for him.

Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Locust is entrusted with arrangements.

Stanly overwhelmingly met or exceeded our family’s expectations. Family and friends both expressed how thoughtful, caring and professional they were. We’re glad you’re in Locust!

We never felt hurried or rushed in any way even though they had other funerals that day.  Everyone at Stanly Funeral Home made us feel like we were family and did everything they could for us in this most trying time in our lives.

Everyone went out of their way to make sure that every detail was good with me.  Their kindness, patience and love they show is superior.  Stephen Aldridge and his ENTIRE staff are the best.

The whole staff was wonderful but Stephen Aldridge was excellent, even sending us a note one month later.
