John Lee Hearne, Jr., of New London, NC passed away peacefully at Atrium Health Northeast, Concord, NC on January 27, 2021 at the age of 88. His funeral service will be 10am Tuesday, February 2, 2021 in the Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care Chapel of Albemarle. Burial will be private.
Mr. Hearne was born in Stanly County on January 13, 1933 to the late John Lee Hearne and Ola Mae Smith Hearne. He was a graduate of Denton High School. John was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War and was a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. He retired from the NC Department of Transportation after a 33 year career as an engineering geologist. John was a resident of Trinity Place for the last year and a half of his life. Mr. Hearne was a mason and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sybil Harley Hearne of the home. Other survivors include two sons, John Hearne (Deb) of New London, NC and Jeffrey Hearne (Kathy) of New London, NC; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Hearne was also preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Lamar Hearne.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations may be made to the American Heart Association, PO 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle is serving the Hearne family.
