Keith Avery Morton

Keith Avery Morton, 71, of Stanfield, NC passed away Friday, February 7th, 2020 at his home.  His funeral with full Military rights will be Monday, February 10th at 2:00PM at Mission Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Hyde and Rev. Ronnie Russell officiating.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 9th from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care of Locust.

Mr. Morton was born on November 19th, 1948 in Stanly County, NC to the late Vance Morton and Dortha Whitley Morton.  He served in the U.S Air Force as Sgt. E4 from August 6th, 1968 until July 27th, 1972.  He later became a mechanic with Otis Elevator Company and retired after 34 years of service.  He was a member of Mission Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  He worked in the baby nursery for 30 plus years where he was known as “Mr. Keith” or “Papa Keith”.  He truly loved the children and they loved him just as much.  Keith was also a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors #135 of Charlotte, NC.  He enjoyed dove hunting, camping, and piddling in his shop.

Mr. Morton is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marie Floyd Morton of the home, sons; Bradley Morton of Asheville, NC, Britt Morton (Stephen Swoap) of Greensboro, NC, and Brian Morton (Trixie) of Albemarle, NC, grandchildren; Jayde Morton, Luxe Morton, Kimber Morton, Nathaniel Swoap, Hayden Swoap, mother in law Peggy Floyd of Stanfield, NC, sister Joyce Morton Hunsucker (Roegell Hunsucker) of Albemarle, NC, brothers; Dale Morton of Norwood, NC, Sherrill Morton (Shelia) of Locust, NC, and Marcus Morton (Renee) of Locust, NC.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Hospice of Stanly & The Uwharrie, especially Crystal Thomas who he loved like a daughter and was caregiver for over 2 years.  Also, to Renee Morton, Brandi Burleson, Sherri Ferguson and Janet Huntley who gave great love as well as care.

    Dearest Morton family, my heart felt sympathy to all of you during this difficult time, I have lots of fond memories of Keith working with him throughout all the years. He was a fine man and will be missed tremendously. God bless you and yours 🙏❤️

    I glad I had the opportunity to meet the Morton’s and work with Keith durning his time of illness. I grew to love this Family and my heart aches for you all.

Stanly overwhelmingly met or exceeded our family’s expectations. Family and friends both expressed how thoughtful, caring and professional they were. We’re glad you’re in Locust!


We never felt hurried or rushed in any way even though they had other funerals that day.  Everyone at Stanly Funeral Home made us feel like we were family and did everything they could for us in this most trying time in our lives.


Everyone went out of their way to make sure that every detail was good with me.  Their kindness, patience and love they show is superior.  Stephen Aldridge and his ENTIRE staff are the best.


The whole staff was wonderful but Stephen Aldridge was excellent, even sending us a note one month later.
