Mary Ruth Kimrey

Mary Ruth Swaringen Kimrey, 88, of Albemarle, NC died peacefully Saturday April 4th, 2020 at Trinity Place in Albemarle. A celebration of life will be held at Porter Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Kimrey was born September 20th, 1931 in Stanly County, NC to the late John Grover Swaringen and Clarice Ruth McIntyre Swaringen.  She was a graduate of Norwood High School and later retired from Smith Furniture of Albemarle.  She was a member of Porter Baptist Church where she served as the WMU President and was well known for her dumplings and candied yams.  She enjoyed camping with her husband, being with her family, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Kimrey was married to the late Roy Lee Kimrey, Sr. who preceded her in death on January 21st, 1993.  She is survived by son Roy Kimrey, Jr. (Cathy) of Monroe, NC,  daughter Sylvia Lawrence (Mickey) of New London, NC, four brothers; J.T. Swaringen (Judy) of New London, NC, Henry Swaringen (Sue) of Albemarle, NC, Conrad Swaringen (Helen) of Norwood, NC, and Gerald Swaringen (Janet) of Albemarle, NC, four grandchildren; Carmen Thomas (Matt) of Matthews, NC, Emily Holleman (Adam) of Weddington, NC, Michelle Osborne (Bryson) of Greensboro, NC, and Meagan Baugh (David) of Valle Crucis, NC, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by brothers Lee Swaringen and Lane Swaringen, and a sister Irene Mabry.

Memorials may be made to Gideon’s International P.O. Box 182 Albemarle, NC 28001 and Porter Baptist Church 16562 US Hwy 52 S. Norwood, NC 28128.

    Sad news as ms Ruth was an awesome lady , enjoyed doing things for her our tulips ms Ruth said was so beautiful and she would walk over to see them , she will truly be missed

    To the family this lady was a sweet was a sweet person because every time I would go in the nursing home to visit mom she would always smile and I’d mess with her say hey Miss Ruth how you doing and she was just smile and try to talk just a little to me and I miss seeing her since I haven’t been to the nursing home since all this sickness has been going on but to the family she was a sweet lady going to miss talking to her

    Roy and family. We are so sorry for your loss. We truly loved Ruth. I appreciated her more than you can know coming to stay with Betty when Lee was in his final days. We will miss her soft voice and sweet smile. We will pray for you and your family. I will make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory. Love to all

    I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. Many prayers and thoughts are with you all. Ruth was a very special lady, always sweet and kind to everyone she met. She set the standard for how people should be and treat one another. I will pray for God to heal your hearts during this time of loss.

    My husband Vann and I are very sorry to hear of Ruth’s passing. She was a wonderful Christian last, and will be greatly missed. I will always remember us playing together as children, having so much fun.

Stanly overwhelmingly met or exceeded our family’s expectations. Family and friends both expressed how thoughtful, caring and professional they were. We’re glad you’re in Locust!


We never felt hurried or rushed in any way even though they had other funerals that day.  Everyone at Stanly Funeral Home made us feel like we were family and did everything they could for us in this most trying time in our lives.


Everyone went out of their way to make sure that every detail was good with me.  Their kindness, patience and love they show is superior.  Stephen Aldridge and his ENTIRE staff are the best.


The whole staff was wonderful but Stephen Aldridge was excellent, even sending us a note one month later.
