
Mildred Wheless Gibson, 86, of Albemarle, NC passed away Monday February 15, 2021 at Trinity Place. Her funeral service will be 2pm Wednesday February 17, 2021 in the New London United Methodist Church with Rev.James Pyatt and Rev. Leslee Wray officiating. Burial will follow in Tyson-Wheless Cemetery with her husband Walter’s cremains. There will be no formal visitation.
Mrs. Gibson was born January 14, 1935 in Anson County, NC to late Dewitt Talmadge Wheless, Sr. and Osie Lee Wheless. She graduated from Pfeiffer College in 1956. Mildred was a former teacher in the Stanly County School System. Mrs. Gibson was a member of the New London United Methodist Church where she was very active, especially in the United Methodist Women.
Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, Walter I. Gibson on April 26, 2020. She is survived by her son Alan B. Gibson and wife Jennifer of Albemarle, NC; three grandchildren Andrew, Luke and Rachel Gibson. A brother also preceded her in death Dewitt T. “Buck” Wheless, Jr.
Memorials may be made to the New London United Methodist Church or the United Methodist Women, P.O. Box 146, New London, NC 28127.
Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle is serving the Gibson family.

I knew Mrs Osie, as she was a teacher in Polkton High School, where I attended School…My grandparents were E.F. & Ada Billingsley…
