Sherrill Edwin Drye

Sherrill Edwin Drye, 77, of Albemarle passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020 in Atrium Health Stanly. His memorial service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2020 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carroll Flack officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle prior to the service.

Born October 22, 1942 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Floyd Edward Drye and Emma Estell McLendon Drye. He was a retired employee of Alcoa and a member of Palestine United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a longtime caretaker of the Palestine Cemetery and he enjoyed playing golf and cards. He loved the beach and most of all spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Treece Drye of the home, daughter Lynn Drye Dimac of Durham, brothers Wendell Drye of Albemarle, Danny Drye of Swansboro, and David Drye of Albemarle, and sisters Cornelia Brown of Albemarle and Kim Bartley of Salisbury. A son Keith, son-in-law Michael and two grandchildren Lara and Katie preceded him in death.

The family requests memorials may be made to the Palestine Cemetery, 37362 Melton Rd., Albemarle, NC 28001.

    I have so many happy memories of growing up with Sherrill as our next-door neighbor. He was so good to my family and I will cherish the memories always.

    I have known Sherrill my whole life and I sure am going to miss seeing him at church. He was such a hoot!!! 😁 He sure did love his family and friends, but most of all his Betty. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Betty and the rest of the family.

    Sherrill was a wonderful man and friend. He was always so happy ready with a smile or laugh . H was a good man, more he was a gentleman. He will be greatly missed by all of Palestine. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Betty and family.

    We will all miss Sherrill very much. He was a very good person and was kind and considerate of others. I have many memories of him.

Stanly overwhelmingly met or exceeded our family’s expectations. Family and friends both expressed how thoughtful, caring and professional they were. We’re glad you’re in Locust!


We never felt hurried or rushed in any way even though they had other funerals that day.  Everyone at Stanly Funeral Home made us feel like we were family and did everything they could for us in this most trying time in our lives.


Everyone went out of their way to make sure that every detail was good with me.  Their kindness, patience and love they show is superior.  Stephen Aldridge and his ENTIRE staff are the best.


The whole staff was wonderful but Stephen Aldridge was excellent, even sending us a note one month later.
