Tommy Allen Morton

Tommy Allen Morton, 79, of Albemarle passed away May 10, 2019 in CHS Stanly.  His funeral will be 11 AM Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Peter Fitzgibbons officiating.  Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory.  The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle. 

Born November 9, 1939 in Albemarle, he was the son of the late Ernest Dolphus Morton and Lillie Bee Dennis Morton.  He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and he served as an usher there for 55 years.  He owned and operated two businesses simultaneously, a restaurant: Family Cafeteria and a body shop: Auto Repair City.  He had numerous jobs throughout his life including operating the projectors of the Badin Road Drive-In Theater, managing Dogwood Lanes, working at Dennis Concrete and Southeastern Materials and also working as a sign painter for many years.  He was most recently responsible for authoring the History of Annunciation Catholic Church.  He was a Veteran of the US Army from 1959-1961.  His bowling team won the State Championship in Bowling in 1971.   He was a secretary, treasurer and manager of the Grumpy Old Men Golf Club after taking up golf in his 50s.  He was an avid gardener and loved flowers. 

Mr. Morton is survived by his wife Beatrice Erving Morton of the home, son Randall Morton (Bonnie) of Albemarle, daughters Pamela Mayhew (Keith) of Stallings and Angie Pressley (Rodney) of Monroe, brothers Lentz Morton of Kershaw and sister Helen Carpenter Williams of Albemarle, grandchildren Garrett, Joel, Christi, JoiAn, Mark, Shyan, Teddy, Brice, and Halie and great-granddaughter Addy.  A son Joseph Anthony Morton and brothers Clinton, Tyler, Howard and sister Jacqueline preceded him in death. 

Because of his love of flowers the family will appreciate the donation of your favorite flowering plants.  Memorials may also be made to the Lottie Moon Offering at Anderson Grove Baptist Church and Misfits Group at Annunciation Catholic Church.

Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle is entrusted with arrangements.

    My heart is very sad that I didn’t get to make his ice cream he ask for. But now he getting the best heaven ice cream. Families Tommy was very dear to me, he will be miss, and knowing that he with families that gone home. God be with you now and week to come. GOD BLESS

    Tommy was always so kind to those of us in the gospel singing group when we played and sang at Family Cafeteria. What a wonderful man he was! Grace & peace to you all.

    I have known Tommy for many years. He was a great friend,always had a story to tell and was fun to be around. I worked for his off and on for several years at the shop behind his house. I will miss him greatly. I was proud to know him.

Stanly overwhelmingly met or exceeded our family’s expectations. Family and friends both expressed how thoughtful, caring and professional they were. We’re glad you’re in Locust!


We never felt hurried or rushed in any way even though they had other funerals that day.  Everyone at Stanly Funeral Home made us feel like we were family and did everything they could for us in this most trying time in our lives.


Everyone went out of their way to make sure that every detail was good with me.  Their kindness, patience and love they show is superior.  Stephen Aldridge and his ENTIRE staff are the best.


The whole staff was wonderful but Stephen Aldridge was excellent, even sending us a note one month later.
